Escape from Tarkov Review

Escape from Tarkov is a tactical FPS (first-person shooter) game being developed by the Russian studio Battlestate Games for Microsoft Windows only. The game is developed in the Unity engine, which makes it quite special among the multiplayer FPS games. A closed alpha version of the game was made available to select users on December 28th of 2016.

The game is set in the fictional Norvinsk region in Northwestern Russia, around a special “economic zone” that served as a gateway between Europe and Russia. However, this attracted corporations with malicious intent, and the city of Tarkov became the center for a major political scandal involving corporations in the Norvinsk area. The player has the objective of escaping the city of Tarkov by working for United Security (USEC) or BEAR.

Escape from Tarkov Game Modes

The game is going to feature several different game modes, which are:

  • PMC Survival: You use your character with any gear you want to bring into a Raid, and you’re able to pick up gear from other players (Scavs or PMCs) or AI (Scav AI) that you kill. But you can also scavenge the map for loot from random locations on the ground. If you die, you lose everything you brought to the Raid. In order to survive and extract gear that you have collected, you have to make it to the extraction point, and that is how you win the match.
  • Scav: You go into the Raid as Scav, the AI Faction, with random gear. You face off against PMCs and possible other Scav Players. Any loot you gather during the game as Scav can be transferred to your main character with no danger of losing the gear if you die. The objective of the game is to survive and extract any gear you have collected.
  • Offline mode: This game mode has the same premise as multiplayer modes, with the exception of losing gear when you die, and that you can select options before entering the game. These include changing the weather and AI options.

For now, Escape from Tarkov has 6 maps, with 7 more in the works, which are:

  • Customs
  • Factory
  • Interchange
  • Shoreline
  • Woods
  • The Lab

Currently, the game is still in closed beta phase of testing, but after purchase the player gets “Guaranteed instant access to closed beta”.
